BlackBerry tries to survive and removes 4,500 jobs

The Canadian maker of BlackBerry smartphones announced the elimination of 4,500 jobs worldwide, or 40% of its workforce. The new BlackBerry 10 have not attracted the public.
blackberryThe new OS BB10 arrived earlier this year, has not halted the decline of the Canadian brand, became unable to attract users, who have flocked to smartphones and Android to iPhone.Struggling for months, BlackBerry has confirmed today that sales of its new smartphones, including the Z10, a true ambassador of the long-awaited revival of the brand did not take off.
The brand claims to have sold 3.7 million smartphones in the second quarter. Figures disappointing. Far away tens of millions of absorptions by Samsung or Apple devices. Bitter disappointment for the brand that had yet imposed on the smartphone market in the early 2000s, who won the youth with its famous BBM, which had made a place among the people who did not hesitate to out their BlackBerry.
Nearly one billion expected loss
But the tide has turned, and for the second quarter of its fiscal year just ended, the BlackBerry will wipe a group operating loss of nearly one billion dollars, and before exceptional items, the net loss will be 250 to $ 265 million.
4,500 jobs lost
The Canadian manufacturer today announced the elimination of 4,500 positions over a little more than 12,000 workers employed by the group. The workforce will be reduced to 7,000 employees. In addition, the BlackBerry will reduce its range with only four devices (two for the high-end segment and two for the entry-level segment) against six currently.
Faced with these catastrophic numbers, the stock fell nearly 17% to less than $ 9. BlackBerry now weighs less than 3% of the smartphone market
